Community Service

SL fulfills a public purpose by meeting clear community needs:

  • For above-average students.
  • In terms of programs, teaching/learning styles (especially experiential), and individualization for each student.
  • In maintaining a positive and nurturing culture that fosters achievement, service, and a sense of belonging. This endeavor involves students, teachers, parents, mentors, and members of the community.
  • For a strong community presence that positively affects its community, especially other schools and non-profit institutions.

USL has a long-standing tradition of serving our community through participation in Trident United Way’s Day of Caring. This is one of the biggest Days of Caring in America, and we contributed over 500 hours of service for the 2016 event at 12 sites across Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties. Our students, faculty, parents, alumni, and alumni parents come together annually to make a difference, and you can see us in action through our Day of Caring slideshow.
